Running back Isaiah Pead, who was with the Miami Dolphins earlier this season, was in a car accident early Saturday morning that has left him in critical condition.

According to WCMH-4 in Columbus, Ohio, Pead, an Ohio high school standout who went on to star at the University of Cincinnati before the Rams made a second-round draft pick in 2012, was driving his 2011 Cadillac CTS sedan on Interstate 670 when he lost control of his vehicle.

Columbus Division of Police said Pead’s car drove off the highway and went through the metal guardrail, becoming airborne and striking several trees. The car stopped nearly 100 feet from the highway.

Pead, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car. Police believe speed was a factor.

Witnesses to the crash called 911 and helped Pead and a passenger until police arrived. Pead was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

Pead played in three games with the Dolphins this season; he played in 27 games with the Rams from 2012-2015.
