Report: Former Chargers GM Smith to join Redskins

Former San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith is expected to join the Washington Redskins' front office in an advisory role, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Smith met with Redskins officials last week and appears set to accept a job as a consultant in the Redskins' personnel department. Smith's son Kyle is a scout for the Redskins.

The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots also had an interest in Smith, according to the report, and Smith was in Indianapolis to meet with officials of those teams.

Smith was the Chargers general manager for 10 years before being fired in December.
