Report: Father's comments did in Colt McCoy

National Football Post

A lot of times in youth sports, a parent's comments or behavior directed toward a coach can have impact on the child's playing time.

It's rare when that happens on the professional level, but Tony Grossi of says it occurred regarding Colt McCoy's father Brad's comments following his son's concussion when the Browns played Cleveland last season.

McCoy, of course, suffered a concussion on what was ruled a malicious hit by Steelers defender James Harrison, but the Browns allowed the quarterback to return to the game and did not diagnose him with a concussion until well after the game was over.

Brad McCoy, being a concerned father, spoke out that the Browns should have taken more precaution with Colt (and they should have, just for the record) and his condition.

But Grossi says the comments probably put an end to McCoy's run as the starter in Cleveland, a decision made easier by the selection of Brandon Weeden with a first-round pick last Thursday.
