Report: Father of Georgia QB Murray has thyroid cancer
It was a difficult weekend for Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs lost to South Carolina 35-7.
Then he returned home to find that the house he shared with linebacker Christian Robinson had been egged and covered with toilet paper.
On Sunday, he was told his father had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
On Sunday, Murray tweeted "probably the worst 12 hours of my life."
His father, Denny Murray, underwent surgery at the Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa on Monday, according to Journal-Constitution, and the family reported the operation went well.
Apparently Denny Murray had been diagnosed a few weeks ago, but the parents did not tell Aaron until Sunday. Aaron Murray and his brother drove to Tampa Sunday.
Regarding the egg and toilet paper work on Murray's rented house, Georgia head coach Mark Richt said, according to NBCSports.com. "Sometimes that comes with the territory. You're a public figure and people get upset about things. It's sad something like that would happen, but it's not shocking people get criticism or something like that happened to them when they're in the type position those guys are in, especially the quarterback position."
