Report: Ex-player's lawsuit targets Gregg Williams

The SportsXchange

The bounty case involving former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams seems to be at the heart of a lawsuit filed by a former player.

Former NFL linebacker Barrett Green sued the Redskins, Williams, and tight end Robert Royal for a knee injury Green suffered in 2004, when Green played for the Giants, ProFootballTalk.com reported, based on tweets by Tulane sports law professor Gabe Feldman.

The lawsuit, according to Feldman's Twitter report, alleges that "Redskins coaches directed their players to disregard criminal and civil laws, as well as NFL rules, to intentionally injure opponents."

Green also alleges he was "suspicious" Royal may have targeted Green.

Joe Gibbs was the Redskins head coach in 2004, and Williams was the defensive coordinator that year.

Green claims Royal played defense on occasion, which would have made Williams his coach at times.
