The SportsXchange

Quarterback Dennis Dixon, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate at Oregon for new Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly, reportedly is in contract negotiations with the Eagles.

The Eagles would not comment on the CSN Philadelphia report, which said Kelly would like Dixon to compete for the starting job.

While teams are not allowed negotiate with free agents until next month, practice squad players are allowed to negotiate contracts the day after the Super Bowl.

Kelly starting his first season in the NFL and is expected to bring his signature flamboyant offense to the Eagles. Dixon is thought to help make the transition to that offense easier.

Dixon played four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before he signed with the Ravens as a practice squad player this season. He was 35 of 59 for 402 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He has run for 56 yards in 10 attempts.
