Report: Dolphins interested in WR Gibson

The SportsXchange

After re-signing Brian Hartline this week, the Miami Dolphins appear to be continuing their pursuit of wide receivers.

The Dolphins are in serious talks with Brandon Gibson, the Miami Herald reported Sunday. General manager Jeff Ireland also is hoping to land prize catch Mike Wallace in free agency.

Gibson is not expected to return to the St. Louis Rams in 2013, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, because the Rams only want him at a salary commensurate to a No. 3 or 4 wide receiver.

Hartline signed a five-year, $31 million deal on Thursday and Gibson is reported to be seeking similar money.

Gibson had a career-best season in 2012 with 51 catches for 691 yards and five touchdown.

Wallace remains the Dolphins' No. 1 target, according to reports, and could command a multiyear contract with an average annual salary of up to $12 million.

Other reports indicate that the Dolphins have interest in New England's Wes Welker.

Free agency officially opens Tuesday when contract offers can be offered to eligible players with other teams.
