Having already signed one Italian striker to a Designated Player contract, the Montreal Impact may just be on the verge of adding another.
La Gazetta dello Sport says that 37-year-old Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero is in talks with Impact brass about joining the MLS side this summer, while other reports have the former Italian international already in agreement with Montreal owner Joey Saputo on a contract.
If Del Piero joins the Impact, he'll link up with a side with a major Serie A influence. Marco Di Vaio was formally announced as Montreal's first DP last week, while Bernardo Corradi, Matteo Ferrari and Colombian defender Nelson Rivas - who spent time with Inter - are also on the books of the Quebec-based club.
Del Piero made over 500 appearances for Juventus, scoring 208 goals in the process. He has also been capped by the Italian national team 91 times, adding 27 goals.
