The Arizona Diamondbacks have come to terms with infielder Eric Chavez on a one-year contract. The deal is worth $3 million, according to reports, and is contingent upon Chavez passing a physical. Chavez, 34, split time last season between first and third base and designated hitter for the New York Yankees. He hit .281 with 16 homers in 278 at-bats. Injuries have limited his playing time the past five years. A six-time Gold Glove third baseman while he was with Oakland, Chavez is expected to be a reserve for the Diamondbacks next season. The Diamondbacks also reportedly have re-signed backup catcher Wil Nieves, 34, to a one-year, $800,000 deal. Nieves is a career .229 hitter.
