A report from KGTV-10 in San Diego says that Chargers RB Ryan Mathews was involved in a car accident late Monday evening.

Mathews, a third-year player who played in the Pro Bowl last season after rushing for 1,091 yards and six touchdowns, was traveling southbound on Sports Arena Blvd. to eastbound Interstate 8 when he lost control of his 2010 BMW M6 and struck another vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Fresno State product complained of pain and was taken to the hospital, although his injuries were minor. The occupants of the other vehicle were not hurt, the CHP said.

CHP officials said Mathews did not look to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and he did not take a sobriety test.

He was at Chargers Park on Tuesday but didn't practice during the afternoon session.
