Report: Cavs shopping G Waiters

The SportsXchange

Disgruntled Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Dion Waiters reportedly is on the trading block.

According to ESPN's Chris Broussard, the Cavaliers offered Waiters to the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls. Other clubs could be in the mix as well, the report indicated.

However, a league source refuted the report to The Sports Xchange, saying the Cavs had not made one call about trading Waiters.

Waiters said before Wednesday's game against the Miami Heat that he did not ask to be traded.

"I don't know what is going on," he said. "I can only control what I can control."

He disputed the reported "three-hour meeting" he supposedly had with Cavs general manager Chris Grant.

"That's nonsense," Waiters said.

Broussard reported that Waiters has a fractious relationship with multiple teammates, notably forward Tristan Thompson and point guard Kyrie Irving. Waiters and Thompson nearly got into a verbal altercation during a team meeting Nov. 13, and they had to be separated by teammates, according to Broussard. The source of the trouble was Waiters saying Irving and Thompson were freezing him out of the team's offense.

Waiters, 21, is in his second NBA season out of Syracuse. He is averaging 13 points, three rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

As a rookie last season, Waiters averaged 14.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and three assists per game.
