Report: Cavs considering ex-Heat Miller

The SportsXchange

Miami used it amnesty provision and waived Mike Miller earlier this week.

Despite having a balky back that might require surgery, it doesn't look like the 6-foot-8, two-time NBA champion Miller will be out of work for very long.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Cleveland Cavaliers are considering making an amnesty waiver bid to claim Miller.

Miller, 33, has played 12 NBA seasons but has had significant injuries his last two years. In fact, Miller is considering back surgery, which might scare off some teams, but not the Cavaliers who have been active in the offseason. They have signed free agents Earl Clark and Jarrett Jack, and have come to terms with Andrew Bynum but are waiting for the amnesty bid period to end before officially signing the former Lakers center.

Miller, who found himself in the starting lineup during the NBA Finals this year, would give the Cavaliers a legitimate outside threat to spread the floor. He averaged 4.8 points in 59 games last season but was stellar from long range in the playoffs, hitting 44 percent of his 3-point range.

The Houston Rockets are another team said to have interest in signing Miller.

The deadline to make such a bid is 5 p.m. Thursday.
