Report: Cal's Bridgford might leave

The SportsXchange

California Golden Bears quarterback Allan Bridgford has left the team to consider his options after being told he would receive fewer spring opportunities.

"He kind of got some news from us that he was going to get some reduced reps," Dykes told reporters. "[He] decided he's going to take a day or two to kind of assess things."

According to Dykes, Bridgford plans to discuss matters with his family this weekend and contact the coaching staff by Monday. Dykes said he would welcome Bridgford's return.

The senior went 31-for-68 in three games last season starting in place of Zach Maynard, tossing one touchdown and three interceptions. He may be considering leaving in the face of increased competition from freshman Jared Goff, redshirt freshman Zach Kline and sophomore Austin Hinder.

That trio has "kind of distinguished themselves and deserve to get more reps," Dykes told reporters.
