Report: Browner decision expected late this month

The SportsXchange

An appeal decision on the one-year suspension of Seattle Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy is not expected until late this month, ESPN reported Sunday.

That means Browner can continue playing at least until the decision is made. However, Browner is out while recovering from a groin strain. He will not play Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

He could be ready to return later in the month when Seattle tries to secure the top seed and home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

Browner turned down an offer from the NFL that would have allowed him to return to the field next October rather than in December, according to Fox Sports.

Browner is contesting his placement in Stage 3 of the NFL's substance-abuse program, arguing that the league improperly advanced him while he was playing in the CFL from 2007-10.

He is also reportedly claiming his urine sample in the positive test in September was mishandled.
