Report: Bengals interested in Ratliff

The SportsXchange

Hours after losing defensive tackle Geno Atkins to a season-ending knee injury, the Cincinnati Bengals contacted former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jay Ratliff, according to ESPN.

Ratliff, who was released by the Cowboys two weeks ago because he failed a physical, is reportedly two to four weeks away from being ready to play.

Ratliff visited the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins this week.

The Bengals have an immediate need for a defensive tackle after Atkins was injured during Thursday night's game against the Dolphins and placed on injured reserve Friday. However, they are reportedly not counting out Ratliff. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer coached Ratliff in Dallas.

Ratliff has been out for almost a year with a groin injury that led to sports hernia surgery in December. He also faces drunk driving charges stemming from an arrest six weeks after then-Cowboys backup Josh Brent's alcohol-related crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown Jr.

Ratliff's trial is scheduled for February.
