At just 24 years old, Freddy Adu is poised to join team No. 10. Follow GOAL.COM on Twitter
The onetime American soccer prodigy will not have his contract with Brazilian side Bahia renewed, according to Lance!Net, after playing sparingly since joining the club in April. Adu was sent to Bahia after struggling during his return stint to MLS, as he failed to lock down a regular starting role during his season and a half with the Philadelphia Union.
Adu joined D.C. United for the 2004 campaign at 14 years old, making him the youngest player in league history. The playmaker's journeyman career has also taken him to Portugal, France, Greece and Turkey.
Once hailed as the future of U.S. soccer, Adu has represented the USA at the 2008 Olympics, the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2009 and 2011 Gold Cups. Although he has amassed 17 full national team caps, none has come since he started the 2011 Gold Cup final.
