Report: Astros sign Pena, Veras

The Houston Astros signed free-agent Carlos Pena to a one-year, $2.9-million deal, according to a CBSSports.com report, citing sources.
Pena, who is expected to share first base and designated hitter with Brett Wallace, can earn another $1.4 million in incentives.
The 34-year-old batted .197 with the Tampa Bay Rays last season, with 19 home runs. He averaged 32 homers a year in past six years.
The Astros signed reliever Jose Veras to a one-year, $2 million contract, according to ESPNDeportes. The right-hander will earn $1.85 million in 2013 with a 2014 option worth $3.25MM or $150,000 buyout.
In 72 appearances for Milwaukee last season, Veras posted a 3.63 ERA in 67 innings.
