Report: America 12 favorite to replace Big East name

Welcome to the "America 12 Conference," formerly known as the Big East.

The name appears to be the leading candidate for the current Big East Conference's football schools, according to an ESPN report.

Other names are also being considered.

While America 12 hasn't officially been approved by the league's presidents, conference law firm Covington & Burling bought and registered the domain name America12.org earlier in the week, the report said, citing WhoIs domain-registration data. The law firm also registered different versions of the name, such as America12Conference.com and American12.org.

With the Catholic 7 schools expected to start a new conference and keep the Big East name, the current football schools need a new name by July 1.
