Report: Allen leaves Seattle meeting without deal

The SportsXchange

Defensive end Jared Allen left his second free-agent visit with the Seattle Seahawks with a contract offer, but his agent told NFL Media that Allen will wait until the weekend to make a decision.

Early in the day, ESPN's Ed Werder reported Allen was in Seattle working on "final details" of a contract. Hours later, agent Ken Harris told NFL Media that his client had a "great time" meeting with the team and that the Seahawks had made an offer, but no agreement was in place.

Allen was reportedly seeking a three-year, $30 million deal along the lines of what DeMarcus Ware received from the Denver Broncos, and has had discussions with other teams as well. Details of Seattle's offer were not known.

Allen has stated his willingness to retire if he didn't receive a reasonable contract from a contending team.

In Seattle, he would join the reigning Super Bowl champions and bolster the league's top-ranked defense. Allen would provide a valued pass-rushing threat off the right side of the line after the team released Chris Clemons earlier this month. The Seahawks also released run-stuffing defensive end Red Bryant and lost interior pass rusher Clinton McDonald during free agency.

Allen, 31, has 128.5 career sacks, 12th-most in NFL history, and he has posted double-digit sacks in seven consecutive seasons, including 11.5 for the Minnesota Vikings in 2013.

It would be the first bold move for the Seahawks in free agency after also losing cornerbacks Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond from the defense and wide receiver Golden Tate and right tackle Breno Giacomini on offense. The Seahawks did re-sign defensive lineman Michael Bennett.
