A's acquire C Suzuki from Nationals

The Oakland A's announced Friday that they re-acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki from the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals will receive a low-level pitching prospect in return.

The A's were looking for backstop help because they have two injured catchers. John Jaso has been out since late July due to a concussion, and it's uncertain if he'll be able to return this year. Derek Norris broke his left big toe Tuesday, and he's likely to land on the disabled list.

Suzuki, 29, lost the Nationals' regular catching role to Wilson Ramos over the past month. In 79 games this season, Suzuki is batting .222 with a .283 on-base percentage, a .310 slugging percentage, three homers and 25 RBI.

The Nationals acquired Suzuki from Oakland in August 2012 in exchange for minor league catcher David Freitas.

Suzuki played at least 131 games for the A's every season from 2008 to 2011. Over six years in Oakland, he batted .254 with a .311 on-base percentage, 57 home runs and 302 RBI.
