    Renney named Red Wings' assistant coach

    The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday named Tom Renney as an associate coach.

    Renney, 57, signed a three-year contract. He formerly coached the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks, and was not rehired by the Oilers after this past season.

    He joins Mike Babcock's staff as a replacement for assistant coach Jeff Blashill.
