Reid Ryan introduced as Astros president
. Reid Ryan, son of Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, officially became the Houston Astros president when the team announced his hiring at a news conference on Friday.
Ryan, 41, takes over for George Postolos, who stepped down on Monday.
Ryan was previously the president and CEO of Ryan-Sanders Baseball and had been running the Triple-A Round Rock Express and Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks. Both clubs are owned by Nolan Ryan and Houston businessman Don Sanders, but the Astros also announced on Friday that they've reached an agreement to purchase the Corpus Christi club.
"Today really is a dream come true because you grow up an Astros fan if you're in Houston," Reid Ryan said at the new conference. "This is just a very special day.
"I kind of look at what my vision is, and really it's two things. It's one, putting the fans first in everything we do. We've got to make sure we're taking care of their best interest. If we take care of their best interest, they'll take care of us. We've also got to take care of the players. We've got to make sure we're doing everything in our power to be able to develop the best players, to attract the best players and to obtain the best players we can, because it's all about the players. You don't have good players, it's tough to be in this business. And they're coming. It may not be this year. It may not be next year. But they're coming, and it's got me really fired up."
His father, Nolan Ryan, is currently the CEO of the rival Texas Rangers.
