Free agent safety Ed Reed
had $50,000 in cash stolen from his car while visiting banks in Houston, the Houston Police Department confirmed Thursday.
Click2Houston.com reported that someone smashed the window of Reed's gray 2006 Audi on Wednesday and took a bag of cash out of the front seat.
A Houston Police Department spokeswoman told NFL Media that Reed withdrew the money from one bank and then stopped at another bank, but, for some reason, left the bag in the front seat.
After playing his first 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens
, Reed spent part of the 2013 season in Houston before being released and finishing the season with the New York Jets.
Reed, 35, signed a one-year contract in November with the Jets after being released by the Texans, who gave up on the nine-time Pro Bowl after only seven games. He had signed a three-year, $15 million deal with Houston.
