Developing story:

Redskins TE Davis cleared to return from Achilles injury

The SportsXchange

Potential free agent tight end Fred Davis of the Washington Redskins was given medical clearance to begin running and could be on the field for offseason team activities in April.

The Redskins have shown some interest in re-signing Davis, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 12.

He might be allowed to test the open market because he's coming back from a serious injury.

Davis had 24 receptions in 2012 before he was lost for the season in October with a ruptured Achilles after seven games.

The Redskins found a winning formula on offense without Davis, using Logan Paulsen, a block-first, inline type of tight end, to strengthen the running game and emphasized their outside receivers in a play-action based passing offense.
