Redskins re-sign S Meriweather

The Washington Redskins re-signed safety Brandon Meriweather to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Meriweather (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) was originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round (24th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. In seven NFL seasons, the two-time Pro Bowler has appeared in 89 career regular-season games with 58 starts with the New England Patriots (2007-10), Chicago Bears (2011) and Washington Redskins (2012-13).

For his career, the 30-year-old Meriweather has posted 349 tackles (243 solo), 34 passes defensed, 15 interceptions (one returned for touchdown), five forced fumbles, three sacks and two fumbles recovered. Last season, he started all 13 games in which he appeared for Washington, being credited by coaches with 93 tackles (59 solo) while also recording two interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
