The Washington Redskins sent Jabar Gaffney packing today a couple weeks after the club informed him he didn’t need to show up for the offseason program.
The Redskins worked unsuccessfully to trade the veteran and all of this comes on the heels of his Twitter meltdown last month. Gaffney went berserk on Twitter on his soon to be ex-wife and cousin and former college teammate Lito Sheppard. Later, he claimed his account was hacked.
Yahoo! Sports first reported the Redskins had cut ties with Gaffney. He led the team in receiving last season with 68 catches for 947 yards and two touchdowns. The club has added Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan via free agency, top targets for new quarterback Robert Griffin III. Gaffney was a favorite of Rex Grossman, who played with him at Florida. For now, Grossman remains as a backup.
