TE Cooley rejoins Redskins

The Redskins released TE Chris Cooley on Tuesday.

"I’m very fortunate to have played for a team and a fan base that have embraced me like they have. This team changed my life,” Cooley said in a press conference.

The two-time Pro Bowler was due almost $4 million in base salary this season. He played in only five games last season because of injury and had eight catches for 65 yards.

In 2010, Cooley had 77 catches for 849 yards and three scores. He had 27 touchdown catches in his first four NFL seasons.

"I think there's a lot in store for the future. I'm so excited for what this team and this staff can accomplish,” Cooley said

The way we see it

The move does not come as a surprise. TE Fred Davis is one of the team’s top offensive weapons and they also have second-year pro Niles Paul at tight end. Cooley was one of the Redskins’ top pass catchers during his time with Washington, and now we’ll see if he joins another club in need of a veteran tight end.
