Redskins: Free agency snapshot

The SportsXchange

ASHBURN, Va. -- Brian Orakpo has 39.5 sacks in just 64 career games. The two-time (2009, 2010) Pro Bowl outside linebacker needs just 4.5 more sacks to move into third place in Washington Redskins history behind Dexter Manley (91) and Charles Mann (82).

However, Orakpo, the 13th overall selection in the 2009 draft, sounds like a player with at least a foot out the door as he approaches his first possible foray into free agency.

"I had a great time being a part of the Redskins and I want to continue it but who knows, man," said the 27-year-old Orakpo, who bounced back from a torn pec that ended his 2012 season in Week 2 to lead Washington with 10 sacks in 2013. "It's not too many times you can be an unrestricted free agent. You've got to sometimes take advantage of that."

--Fred Davis started 38 of the 51 games for which he was available from 2009-2012, but the sixth-year tight end just about disappeared from the offense in 2013 as he apparently missed assignments and wasn't fully diligent in meetings while rookie Jordan Reed excelled at the position.

Davis caught just seven passes this season while playing in only 10 games. After being franchised the past two offseasons, Davis wants to push the proverbial button as he turns 28 next week.

"I want to start fresh," he said. "I would like to come back here but wherever I get an opportunity to play."
