The SportsXchange

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was not in the starting lineup Sunday because of a sore knee, only the second time this season he has not been in the lineup.

Votto, who was elected by fans to the National League All-Star team Sunday, left Saturday's game in the fifth inning because of inflammation in his left knee.

"It's progressing. I will have to talk to Paul [Lessard, the head athletic trainer] and Dusty [Baker, the manager] about it," Votto said, according to MLB.com, regarding his availability. "It's usually their decision and it's my knee's decision, not really mine."

Miguel Cairo started in Votto's place and batted seventh.

Votto is batting .350 with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs this season. His .471 on-base percentage lead the Majors.
