Reds to sign utility man Schumaker

Skip Schumaker and the Cincinnati Reds agreed to a two-year, $5 million deal on Tuesday.

Schumaker can play every position on the infield and corner outfield spots. He was drafted by Reds general manager Walt Jocketty in 2001, when Jocketty held the same position with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Schumaker, 34, spent eight seasons with the Cardinals before being acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers last December in a trade that sent minor-league shortstop Jake Lemmerman to the Cardinals.

Schumaker hit .263 with two homers in 125 games for the Dodgers in 2013.
