Reds sign RHP Wang to minor league contract

The Cincinnati Reds signed right-hander Chien-Ming Wang on Thursday to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Wang 33, went 8-7 with a 2.87 ERA in 18 appearances, including 17 starts, at Triple-A in 2013, but 1-2 with a 7.67 ERA in six major league starts for the Toronto Blue Jays before being released..

Wang pitched for the New York Yankees from 2005 to 2008, going 54-20 with a 3.79 ERA until he suffered an injury to his foot while running the bases in June 2008. Wang won 19 games each in 2006 and 2007.

While recovering in 2009, Wang injured his arm. He has not managed to regain his peak form despite a comeback attempt with the Washington Nationals in 2011 and 2012 and another with the Blue Jays this year.
