Reds RHP Cueto to start Monday

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto is scheduled to come off the disabled list and start Monday's game against the Houston Astros.

Cueto last pitched on June 28 before going on the DL for the third time this season with a right lat muscle strain.

He was unable to make any rehab starts with the minor league regular season over, so manager Dusty Baker plans to be careful with him in Monday's start.

"We'll see what we can get out of him," Baker told the Cincinnati Enquirer Sunday. "It's worth a try, because he's Johnny Cueto. The more we get out of him (Monday) and the more we get out of him the next time, maybe who knows what he'll be ready for come playoff time."

The Reds enter Sunday 2 1/2 games back in the National League Central and 5 1/2 games ahead of the Washington Nationals for the second wild card spot.

Cueto is 4-2 with a 3.33 ERA in nine starts this season.
