Mat Latos went eight innings allowing just five hits and Sam LeCure shut it down in the ninth as Cincinnati put an end to any hopes of a late rally to slip past Arizona, 2-1. Arizona had a wOBA of just .207, despite a season average of .306.
In the bottom of the third, Shin-Soo Choo scored after a ground out. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth, the Reds took a lead they would not relinquish when Choo scored on a wild pitch.
Latos went to 13-4 on the season after he allowed only one run on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks. LeCure worked one inning to earn his first save of the season after giving up two hits, striking out one and walking no one. Eury De La Rosa (0-1) picked up the loss after pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up one run on one hit with no strikeouts and one walk. Choo was impressive at the plate for the Reds, going 2 for 4 with two runs. Paul Goldschmidt finished 3 for 4 in the loss.
The Reds took the series three games to one. They will face the Brewers Friday at Great American Ball Park at 7:10 PM EDT.
