Reds' Chapman could begin rehab

The SportsXchange

Cincinnati Reds Aroldis Chapman pitched another live batting practice session on Tuesday afternoon and appears to be headed to the minor leagues on a rehab assignment as he continues his recovery from taking a line drive to the face during spring training last month.

Chapman's simulated game session in Cincinnati before the Reds played the Chicago Cubs included 25 pitches, reported, and he reached 98 mph with his fastball.

The Reds closer could begin his rehab stint as early as Thursday at nearby Class A Dayton. He expects to pitch four to five minor league games before returning to the Reds.

Chapman suffered facial fractures when he was struck in the face by a batted ball in an exhibition game on March 19. He underwent surgery to insert a plate to promote healing.
