Reds, C Pena reach agreement on 2-year deal

AP - Sports

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Reds have reached agreement with catcher Brayan Pena on a $2,275,000, two-year deal, giving them three catchers on the roster.

Pena, who turns 32 in January, has played for the Braves, Royals and Tigers during his nine-year career. He joins Ryan Hanigan and Devin Mesoraco on the roster, taking the place of catcher Corky Miller.

Miller was designated outright to the minors after the season and chose free agency rather than accept the assignment.

Pena batted .297 in 71 games for the Tigers with four homers and 22 RBIs last season. He went 1 for 3 in the playoffs with an RBI single during a 4-3 loss in Game 5 to Boston. Pena threw out 24 percent of runners who tried to steal.
