Reds' Bruce goes on DL

The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jay Bruce on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and recalled outfielder Roger Bernadina to replace him on the roster.

Bruce is expected to be out about four weeks after undergoing surgery on Monday morning to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee.

Bruce, who struck out in a pinch-hitting appearance on Sunday, is batting .216 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 102 at-bats this season.

The Reds were to open a two-game interleague series against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

Bernadina was designated for assignment on Saturday when Skip Schumaker was reinstated from the disabled list. In 23 games for the Reds this season, Bernadina is batting .143 with no homers and one RBI.

The Reds have been hit hard by injuries, with eight players starting the season on the disabled list, including starting pitcher Mat Latos and closer Aroldis Chapman.
