Red Wings sign Colaiacovo, Abdelkader

Free-agent defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced Friday.

Detroit also re-signed restricted free-agent forward Justin Abdelkader for another four years. Financial terms weren't disclosed on either deal.

Colaiacovo, 29, had two goals and 17 assists in 64 regular-season games with the St. Louis Blues last season, and three assists in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Abdelkader, 25, had eight goals and 14 assists in 81 regular-season games last season, and appeared in five playoff games. MLive.com reported that his deal will pay him an average $1.8 million annually.
