Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard has agreed to a six-year contract extension with the team.
Reports surfaced last week that a deal valued at $31.8 million was close, and the team made the official announcement Tuesday via twitter.
Howard, 29, is in the final year of a two-year, $4.5 million contract. An all-star last season, Howard has won at least 35 games in three straight seasons. He is 16-12-4 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .917 save percentage this season.
