The injury-plagued Detroit Red Wings lost another player on Tuesday night when defenseman Jonathan Ericsson sustained a broken finger late in the second period of a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 30-year-old Ericsson was scheduled for surgery on Wednesday to insert pins to stabilize the broken left middle finger and will miss at least two weeks, Red Wings general manager Ken Holland announced Wednesday.

In the past six days, the Red Wings' extensive injury list includes Ericsson, forwards Justin Abdelkader (leg laceration), Todd Bertuzzi (lower body), Tomas Jurco (rib) and Joakim Andersson (ankle) and goaltender Jonas Gustavsson (groin). Already sidelined by injuries were Darren Helm (concussion), Daniel Cleary (knee), Pavel Datsyuk (knee), Henrik Zetterberg (back), Stephen Weiss (hernia) and Mikael Samuelsson (shoulder).

"We get someone hurt every day and they never come back," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said, accoding to The Detroit News. "(Ericsson's) seeing a hand specialist. He has a broken finger. In the old days, you just taped it up and kept playing. I don't know what the rules are (now)."

It is not the first time that Ericcson has been hurt this season. He earlier missed 10 games with a separated shoulder and 10 games with broken ribs.

When healthy, Ericcson has played in 48 games this season and has one goal and 11 points.
