The World Series champion Boston Red Sox declined to tender contracts to injured reliever Andrew Bailey and outfielder Ryan Kalish, making them two of the 43 players who were not tendered contracts by their teams Monday.

The deadline for clubs to offer one-year contracts to arbitration-eligible players was 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday. Players who were non-tendered became free agents.

Bailey, 29, served as the Red Sox's closer for several stretches early in the season before he sustained a shoulder injury. He underwent season-ending surgery in July.

Kalish, 25, had right shoulder surgery in January, then neck surgery in August. He did not play in 2013.

Among the other notable players who were non-tendered were Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia, St. Louis Cardinals reliever John Axford, New York Yankees infielder Jayson Nix, Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Ronald Belisario, New York Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin, Miami Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan and Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Garrett Jones.

Arencibia, 27, lost his job as the regular catcher when the Blue Jays and free agent catcher Dioner Navarro agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract Monday. In 138 games last season, Arencibia batted .194 with a .227 on-base percentage, a .365 slugging percentage, 21 homers and 55 RBIs.

Axford, 30, was the Milwaukee Brewers' closer from 2010-12. He wound up as a middle reliever in 2013, then was dealt to St. Louis in August. Axford had no decisions and a 1.59 ERA in six postseason appearances for the National League champion Cardinals.

Nix, 31, filled in for injured Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and shortstop Derek Jeter for large chunks of last season. He hit .236 with a .308 on-base percentage, a .311 slugging percentage, three homers and 24 RBIs in 87 games.

Belisario, 30, went 5-7 with one save and a 3.97 ERA in 77 appearances for the Dodgers this year.

Valdespin, 25, is known mainly for being one of the players who received a 50-game suspension for his dealings with Biogenesis, a now-shuttered South Florida anti-aging clinic that reportedly supplied banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Coghlan, 28, was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2009 when he batted .321. He never hit above .268 since, and he batted .256 with one homer and 10 RBIs in 70 games this year.

Jones, 32, lost his starting job late in the season when the Pirates acquired first baseman Justin Morneau from the Minnesota Twins. Jones hit .233 with a .289 on-base percentage, a .419 slugging percentage, 15 homers and 51 RBIs in 144 games in 2013.

The other AL players who were non-tendered were Kansas City Royals second baseman Chris Getz; Yankees infielder David Adams and right-hander Matt Daley; Cleveland Indians catcher Lou Marson, outfielder Matt Carson and right-hander Tyler Cloyd; Los Angeles Angels right-handers Jerome Williams, Tommy Hanson and Juan Gutierrez and third baseman Chris Nelson; Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Sam Fuld and reliever Wesley Wright; Chicago White Sox right-hander Dylan Axelrod; and Baltimore Orioles outfielder Jason Pridie and outfielder Eddie Gamboa.

The other NL players who were non-tendered were Mets right-handers Scott Atchison and Jeremy Hefner and infielders Omar Quintanilla and Justin Turner; Atlanta Braves right-hander Cristhian Martinez and infielders Paul Janish and Eliot Johnson; Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Daniel Hudson; Chicago Cubs reliever Daniel Bard, infielder Mat Gamel and right-hander Chang-Young Lim; Cincinnati Reds outfielders Derrick Robinson and Xavier Paul; Colorado Rockies right-hander Mitchell Boggs; Marlins right-hander Ryan Webb; Pirates catcher Michael McKenry and right-hander Kyle McPherson; and San Francisco Giants outfielder Francisco Peguero and right-hander Sandy Rosario.

The Cubs parted ways with two players who never appeared in a game for them. Bard was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox in September, and Gamel was acquired off waivers from the Brewers in October. Gamel, 28, missed all of the 2013 season and nearly all of 2012 due to knee injuries.
