Red Sox put Buchholz, Ross on DL

The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 9 because of a strained neck and catcher David Ross on the seven-day concussion DL.

Buchholz, 28, is 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA but hasn't pitched since June 8. He is eligible to come off the disabled list as early as June 24.

Ross, 36, has been struck by foul balls twice in the past month. The most recent occurred during the weekend. The backup catcher is hitting .185 with four home runs and six RBIs in 23 games this season.

The Red Sox recalled catcher Ryan Lavarnaway and reliever Alex Wilson to fill out the 25-man roster.
