Red Sox call up Lin, demote Gomez

The Boston Red Sox have called up outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin from Class AAA Pawtucket on Sunday.

This is the second major-league call-up this season for Lin, who is the eighth major-leaguer from Taiwan. Earlier this season he had a call-up during which he played in one game as a defensive replacement.

He was hitting .256 in 36 games for Pawtucket, with two home runs and 16 RBIs.

The Red Sox made room for Lin by sending first baseman Mauro Gomez to Pawtucket.

Gomez played in two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-2. Before being called up May 10, he was hitting .294 with 10 homers and 33 RBI in 34 games.
