Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Andrew Bailey, who had missed the entire season so far following thumb surgery, was activated from the 60-day disabled list and was available for Tuesday's game. Bailey, 28, was expected to be Boston's closer this season, but he had surgery to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb on April 4. He combined for a 1.42 ERA with 10 strikeouts and one walk over six rehab appearances between the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox, Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. It's unclear if and when he will be given the role of closer for the Red Sox. He was acquired from Oakland on December 28, 2011. Last year, he converted 24 of 26 save opportunities.
