Red Bulls acquire right back Kimura from Timbers

The New York Red Bulls might not have a head coach in place, but that is not stopping the club from making personnel moves as it looks to put together a winning side for 2013.

The Red Bulls acquired right back Kosuke Kimura and a second-round pick in the upcoming 2013 MLS SuperDraft from the Portland Timbers Monday in exchange for the Homegrown Player rights to Bryan Gallego and allocation money.

Gallego is a 19-year-old U.S. youth international central defender and just finished his sophomore season at the University of Akron, where he starred under current Timbers coach Caleb Porter. A former U.S. Under-18 captain and member of the U.S. U-20 player pool, Gallego came through the Red Bulls academy and can sign with the Timbers as a Homegrown Player should he end up playing in MLS.

In Kimura, the Red Bulls get a defender who won an MLS Cup with the Colorado Rapids in 2010 but was offloaded to Portland last year and started in 16 games.

"Kosuke is a player who has impressed us for several years and we are happy to bring him to our club. He will provide depth in the fullback position and his MLS experience will be a great asset for us," Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said in a team statement.
