Tampa Bay avoided arbitration with pitcher Jeff Niemann by reaching agreement on a one-year, $3 million contract, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Niemann is coming off an injury-plagued 2012 season when a broken fibula and shoulder problem limited him to eight games. He posted a 2-3 record with a 3.08 ERA. The new contract will give Niemann a small raise from the $2.75 million he made last season. The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to regain his spot in the Rays' starting rotation this year. In five seasons with Tampa Bay, Niemann has a 40-26 record with a 4.09 ERA.
