Rays place Scott on DL

The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder/designated hitter Luke Scott on the 15-day disabled list because of lower back spasms, the club announced Saturday.

The Rays also activated right-handed pitcher Brandon Gomes, who was on the 60-day DL since may with a lat strain.

Scott, 35, is batting .249 with a .336on-base percentage, nine home runs and 39 RBI in 78 games this season.

Jason Bourgeios, Sam Fuld and Sean Rodriguez look to get more playing time with Scott out.

Gomes is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 2/3 innings this year.
