The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a one-year deal with second baseman Kelly Johnson, Fox Sports reported Monday. Johnson, 31, has hit .223 with a .698 OPS over the past two seasons. Through age 28, however, he had an OPS of .800, according to NBC Sports' Pro Baseball Talk. Johnson provides Tampa Bay with the potential to hit 20 home runs and steal 15 bases with patience at the plate as a middle infielder. However, he could play mainly in the outfield if the Rays use versatile Ben Zobrist as an infielder.
