Bajema, a 6-5, 260-pound seven-year veteran, started 11 games for the Rams last season. Known mostly for his blocking, the 29-year-old Bajema has caught 38 passes for 398 yards and two touchdowns in his career.
He had nine catches for 71 yards in 16 games with St. Louis last season.
Pitta, who is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after having surgery on his hand Tuesday, is expected to be back in time for the team's season opener against the Bengals on Monday, Sept. 10. That would leave Bajema in competition with Davon Drew and rookies Matt Balasavage and Bruce Figgins for the No. 3 TE role.
To make room for Bajema, the Ravens waived undrafted rookie free-agent QB John Brantley.
The way we see it
This signing adds needed depth for the team at the TE position after Pitta's injury. Bajema most likely will be a camp body but has a chance to make the final roster with a good showing.
