Painter's ceiling could be third spot on depth chart

The Ravens announced Thursday that they have signed QB Curtis Painter. The ex-Colt joined QBs Dennis Dixon and Kyle Boller in workouts for Baltimore on Wednesday.

Painter started eight games for the Colts last season in relief of Kerry Collins, who had originally been pegged to start for the injured Peyton Manning, and Painter went 0-8, throwing six touchdowns and nine interceptions. Dan Orlovsky started the final five games for Indy.

The Colts cut Painter in March, and he will reunite with Jim Caldwell, his head coach in Indianapolis and the Ravens’ new quarterbacks coach. Painter and Tyrod Taylor, a 2011 sixth-rounder, are the backups to Joe Flacco.
