Ravens sign LB McClain

The Baltimore Ravens signed linebacker Rolando McClain to a one-year contract after he passed a physical. the team announced Friday.

McClain, Oakland's first-round draft in 2010, spent the first three years of his career with the Raiders, posting 274 tackles (195 solo), 6.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and 23 passes defensed.

In 2012, the 23-year-old McClain, a former Butkus Award winner while at Alabama, finished with 90 tackles (59 solo), one sack, one forced fumble and three passes defensed in nine games.

After the season, McClain was granted permission to seek a trade and, when interest wasn't there, released on waivers by the Raiders. He was suspended by the Raiders late last season after an argument with coach Dennis Allen about being benched.

McClain also was arrested on a weapons charge for an incident in which he allegedly held a gun to a victim's head and then aimed it just over his right ear and fired.

With the Ravens, the opportunity for playing time should be there after linebackers Ray Lewis retired, Dannell Ellerbe left via free agency and backup Brendon Ayanbadejo was released.
